What is a bulbous nose?

You look in the mirror. The tip of your nose doesn’t look like a thin line; on the contrary, it looks like a round and full ball. That’s what we call a “bulbous nose“.

A bulbous nose means a nose that doesn’t have a sharp, defined tip but rather a wide and rounded shape. From the front, you don’t see a thin line of light; instead, you see a thick mass. From the side, the nose may appear heavy or slightly droopy.

What causes a bulbous nose?

Ageing can also indirectly trigger this, as the tissues in the nose loosen over time; the tip of the nose may sag slightly or appear larger.

Who is a good candidate for bulbous nose job?

Anyone with an underdeveloped nose, good health, and realistic expectations is a suitable candidate. Age is a critical threshold here; it is generally not recommended for those under 18, as the nose is still developing during puberty.

Health status is just as important as age. There should be no underlying conditions that would hinder healing, and not smoking or being willing to quit makes a big difference. Candidates with good skin and bone structure generally achieve clearer results, as the surgery reshapes both the underlying cartilage and the overlying skin.

How to treat a bulbous nose in Turkey?

If the cause is genetic or cartilage structure, the solution is rhinoplasty. There are two options. Non-surgical treatment for a bulbous nose

If you are hesitant about surgery, there is also a non-surgical option. The nasal tip can be temporarily made more balanced with filler injections. But this is not a permanent solution, think of it as a temporary trial. The result lasts 6-12 months, then a follow-up appointment is needed.

Rhinophyma treatment

If the cause is rhinophyma, a completely different approach should be taken. This is a skin condition seen in severe rosacea cases, requiring a dermatological rather than surgical start. First, rosacea is controlled with medication. In advanced cases, laser treatment or microdermabrasion (thinning of the upper layer of skin) may be necessary.

Recovery after bulbous nose rhinoplasty

Bulbous nose surgery takes 3–4 hours and is performed under general anaesthesia. A splint is worn for the first week; as the bones are not touched, there is minimal bruising.
