What is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the eyelids by removing excess skin, fat or muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It’s a popular procedure amongst patients who’re unhappy with their hooded or drooping eyelids or under eye bags. Ageing often gives that undesirable tired look which can make us look much older than we really are. Eyelid surgery can address tired, sagging to puffy looking eyes and give you a more youthful and rested look. In addition to making your eyes appear younger, removing excess tissue from your upper eyelids can also improve your vision.
How is Eyelid Surgery Performed?
Eyelid surgery involves making an incision along the natural skin crease of your upper eyelid to allow for removal of excess skin, fat or muscle. The incision will be closed with sutures and the scar is usually hidden in the natural fold of the eyelid, making it almost invisible. Eyelid surgery is the most effective and long-lasting procedure which removes extra skin that hangs over the upper eyelids.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Ideal candidates for lower eyelid surgery include anyone who has bags or puffiness under their eyes that makes them look older and tired. Lower eyelid surgery is a minimally invasive procedure which involves making an incision just below the lower eyelashes to remove fat, excess skin and sagging muscle. If you have a pocket of fat beneath your lower eyelids without extra skin, the fat can be removed by making an incision inside of the lower eyelid. This allows for access to the eyelid without visible incisions, making this technique perfect for patients who need fat removed.

What should I expect during my consultation with the surgeon?
During your consultation with the surgeon, you will discuss your expectations and potential results, giving you a chance to decide together what’s best for you and your facial structure. He will go through your medical history and test results with you to ensure your suitability for the procedure. You will then be given information about your post-op recovery and be prepared for your surgery.
When can I expect to return to work?
Normally, you can return to work within 10 days, however you might suffer from bruising and swelling, so you might consider taking more time off depending on how you heal.

When can I expect to see my results?
You can expect to see the initial results of your ‘eyelid’ surgery 4-6 weeks after surgery when most of the swelling goes down. Most patients will start seeing their true results after three months as that’s when majority of the swelling will disappear. However, it won’t be until six-months post-op before you can see your final results.
