What is Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)?
Rhinoplasty commonly referred to as a “nose job” is a popular procedure used for changing the shape or size of the nose to both aesthetically enhance it and restore its functions. Patients who are unhappy with the way their nose looks wish to have Rhinoplasty to improve their overall appearance. As the central feature of the face, how it looks can affect your confidence, therefore making it one of the most common procedures performed by our surgeons. In addition to improving your appearance it can also be performed to improve its function by correcting breathing problems caused by a deviated septum.
There’re two different surgical approaches to a nose job, including open and closed rhinoplasty. Open rhinoplasty is performed from outside of the nose whereas closed rhinoplasty involves incisions placed within the nostrils. The choice of procedure depends on which method will achieve the best results.
Open Rhinoplasty
It is performed by creating an incision along the width of the columella, the soft tissue between the nostrils. This technique allows the nasal skin to be folded back for greater visibility and increased precision and it is best used when correcting difficult noses and revision cases.
Closed Rhinoplasty
It involves making small incisions inside the nostrils to reshape the nose. Since the incisions are made within the nostrils this means there will be no visible scarring. This is a less invasive technique which allows for a faster recovery and less swelling.
3D Imaging in Rhinoplasty
Our expert surgeons use 3D imaging software to plan your “nose job” and show you various surgical options which will best suit your face. It’s a very effective tool that allows patients to visually see the changes they would like, while providing our surgeons with a plan for the surgery. Although 3D imaging can predict the results of a nose job more accurately, post-operative results may slightly vary.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect during my consultation with the surgeon?
During your consultation with the surgeon you will discuss your expectations and potential results, giving you a chance to decide together what’s best for you and your facial structure. He will go through your medical history and test results with you to ensure your suitability for the procedure. After clearly explaining how a ‘nose job’ is performed and what type of scarring you will have, he will physically examine you and draw detailed markings on your nose. You will then be given information about your post-op recovery and be prepared for your surgery.
Is there an age limit for Rhinoplasty?
While there is no specific age limit for Rhinoplasty, you need to be over 18 to be a suitable candidate for this procedure.
When can I expect to return to work?
Normally, you can return to work within 10 days, however you might suffer from bruising and swelling, so you might consider taking more time off depending on how you heal.
Will I be left with scars?
Rhinoplasty is performed by making either a small incision across the skin between the nostrils or inside your nose. Both types of incisions are very small and although they will not completely disappear, the scars will gradually fade over time.
When can I expect to see my results?
You can expect to see the initial results of your ‘nose job’ 4-6 weeks after surgery when most of the swelling goes down. Most patients will start seeing their true results after three months as that’s when majority of the swelling will disappear. However, it won’t be until a full year for you to see your final results.
Don’t forget that specific results cannot be guaranteed as every individual has different bodies therefore everyone’s results will vary.
Should I bring a friend with me?
Our dedicated patient coordinators and nurses will be with you during every step of your journey. However, when having a surgical procedure anywhere it’s always best to have a familiar face with you.
When can I take a shower?
You can take a shower 2-3 days after surgery. However, you cannot wash your face as you can only cleanse the area surrounding your nasal splint using a washcloth.
How long does the operation take?
It takes around 2-3 hours.
What type of anaesthesia will be used?
Rhinoplasty surgery is performed under general anaesthesia
