Facelift

Facelift surgery can help restore a more youthful appearance by removing excess facial skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles

What is a Facelift?

A facelift also known as rhytidectomy is a surgical procedure aimed at reducing visible signs of ageing by rejuvenating the mid and lower face as well as the upper neck. With ageing, various changes can be seen on our faces as our skin loses its elasticity and begins to sag. Facelift and neck lift surgery can help restore a more youthful appearance by removing excess facial skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. On average a face lift takes ten to twelve years off a person’s age following surgery.

How is a Facelift Performed?

There are different types of face lift surgery and depending on your needs our surgeon will determine the right type of facelift for you. One of the most common types of face lift is a traditional facelift surgery which can be performed with or without a neck lift. Many patients prefer a combination of face and neck lift which allows our surgeon to tighten the skin in the neck for an overall youthful appearance.

A full facelift involves making an incision along your hairline to separate skin from the underlying tissue and tighten the facial muscles before the skin is stitched into place along the original incision. Any excess skin and fat are removed and in some cases fat grafting is used to transfer fat to the cheek area for extra volume.

Benefits of a Facelift

  • Excess fat can be removed during a facelift
  • It can help contour your jawline and neck

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s Facelift surgery?

A Facelift is a surgical procedure aimed at reducing visible signs of ageing by rejuvenating the mid and lower face as well as the upper neck. Facelift and neck lift surgery can help restore a more youthful appearance by removing excess facial skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

What is the best age to get a Facelift?

Results from a Facelift will typically last 7-10 years so it is recommended that you wait until at least you’re in your mid-40s when signs of aging begin to become prevalent.

What should I expect during my consultation with the surgeon?

During your consultation with the surgeon, you will discuss your expectations and potential results, giving you a chance to decide together what’s best for you and your facial structure. He will go through your medical history and test results with you to ensure your suitability for the procedure. After clearly explaining how ‘facelift’ surgery is performed and what type of scarring you will have, he will physically examine you and draw detailed markings on your face. You will then be given information about your post-op recovery and be prepared for your surgery.

When can I expect to return to work?

Normally, you can return to work within 2 weeks, however you might suffer from bruising and swelling, so you might consider taking more time off depending on how you heal.

Will I be left with scars?

A full Facelift involves making an incision along your hairline to separate skin from the underlying tissue and tighten the facial muscles before the skin is stitched into place along the original incision, making them almost invisible.

When can I expect to see my results?

You can expect to see the initial results of your ‘facelift’ surgery 4-6 weeks after surgery when most of the swelling goes down. Most patients will start seeing their true results after three months as that’s when majority of the swelling will disappear. However, it won’t be until six-months post-op before you can see your final results.

Don’t forget that specific results cannot be guaranteed as every individual has different bodies therefore everyone’s results will vary.

Should I bring a friend with me?

Our dedicated patient coordinators and nurses will be with you during every step of your journey. However, when having a surgical procedure anywhere it’s always best to have a familiar face with you.

When can I take a shower?

You can take a shower 2-3 days after surgery. However, you cannot wash your face as you can only cleanse your face using a washcloth.

How long does the operation take?

It takes around 2 hours.

What type of anaesthesia will be used?

Facelift surgery is performed under general anaesthesia.
