BBL at a Glance
Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL surgery is by far the most popular buttock enhancing procedure which has fast gained popularity in recent years thanks to famous celebrities. Many patients who have lost their confidence as a result of their flat and sagging buttocks choose to have this procedure when going to the gym has failed to give them the shape and volume they desire. Brazilian Butt Lift is the right surgical procedure to enhance your buttocks by transferring unwanted fat to your hips and buttocks while contouring your body at the same time.
What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a cosmetic surgery procedure involves grafting fat from different parts of the body and transferring it to the buttocks to enhance its shape and size.BBL is one of the most requested procedures by patients due to its growing popularity with women who are concerned about their flat or sagging buttocks. What makes a Brazilian Butt Lift even more appealing is that patients also benefit from fat removal around the midriff, resulting in a curvaceous figure.
How is BBL performed?
During a Brazilian Butt Lift surgery, the patient undergoes VASER Liposuction* to remove fat from their abdomen, flanks and back using ultrasound energy. The fat is then processed and purified for a greater chance of survival. The highest quality fat cells are then transferred into the buttocks and hips using a cannula. It is important to know that around 30-40% of the injected fat will be reabsorbed into the body. The exact amount varies for every patient and final results depend on aftercare.
Permanent Results
The fat transfer from a Brazilian Butt Lift will remain in your buttocks permanently. While it may take up to six months to see how much fat has survived, once the swelling goes down you will have a more pronounced and contoured shape. Patients will need to wear a compression garment to facilitate the healing process and to help protect the newly placed fat cells for long-lasting results.
*VASER Liposuction® is the most advanced form of liposuction used to eliminate fat and enhance body contour

Frequently Asked Questions
What is BBL?
Brazilian Butt Lift, also known as a BBL is a surgical procedure which enhances the look of the buttocks by removing fat from different parts of the body and transferring the fat to the hips and buttocks. Liposuction is a very popular treatment performed mostly on the abdomen, love handles and back of the patient and is mostly referred to as 360 Liposuction.
What should I expect during my consultation with the surgeon?
During your consultation with the surgeon you will discuss your expectations and potential results. He will go through your medical history and test results with you to ensure your suitability for the procedure. After clearly explaining how VASER Liposuction and fat transfer are performed he will physically examine you and draw very detailed markings on your treatment areas. The markings will be unique to your body and they will define precisely where your surgeon is going to perform VASER Liposuction and fat transfer. You will then be given information about your post-op recovery and be prepared for your surgery.
Will this procedure help me lose weight?
Liposuction is not a weight loss surgery. It is a surgical procedure used to reshape your body by removing stubborn pockets of fat which some patients find difficult to shed through exercise and diet. But, in order to maintain your results, you will need to ensure that you start eating healthy and exercise regularly to have the body you’ve always dreamed of!
How long downtime do I need to recover?
The duration of your recovery depends on how your body heals, your lifestyle and how thoroughly you follow the aftercare guidelines given to you by your surgeon. Although everyone’s body recovers differently, final results can generally be seen around 6 months after the surgery. Throughout your healing period, drinking plenty of water, avoiding smoking and eating reduced salt and sugary foods will help reduce your swelling and help your body heal a lot quicker. Make sure you check out our top BBL recovery tips!
Will I lose the transferred fat if my weight fluctuates?
After a BBL procedure your body will reabsorb around 30-40% of the transferred fat. To make sure that the remaining fat remains in your buttocks and hips permanently depends you must follow the aftercare guidelines given by your surgeon. Additionally, if you do rigorous exercise, lose a huge amount of weight or live an unhealthy lifestyle you may lose some of the injected fat as they are your own fat cells.
When can I expect to return to work?
It depends on the type of job you do. Normally, you can return to work within 14 days if your job is sedentary. For more active jobs we recommend taking 3 weeks off work. Don’t forget that you can’t sit down on your buttocks for 2 weeks following BBL surgery without using your BBL pillow.
When can I expect to see my results?
Some patients may see results immediately, but most will start seeing their results 6-8 weeks after the procedure once the swelling has subsided. However, it can take up to 6 months to 1 year to achieve the final result.
Don’t forget that specific results cannot be guaranteed as every individual has different bodies therefore everyone’s results will vary.
Will I have any scars?
The only scars you will have will be those from the Liposuction incisions and the BBL incisions where the fat is transferred. They are very small and they will fade away in time with the use of scar gels. Our expert surgeons make sure that the incisions are placed discretely so that they’re concealed by your underwear.

What type of anesthesia will be used?
BBL surgery is performed under general anesthesia.
What happens if I sit on my BBL too soon?
After a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery sitting too soon can compromise the results by putting pressure on the newly transferred fat cells, causing them to shift or die. This may lead to distortion of the ideal aesthetic appearance, irregular contours, or a less effective result. It can also increase swelling and prolong the healing process.
What can ruin a brazilian butt lift (BBL) surgery?
- Sitting Too Early: Putting pressure on the area can dislodge or damage fat cells.
- Inadequate Aftercare: Failure to follow postoperative care instructions can hinder healing and results.
- Smoking: Smoking can disrupt blood flow and negatively affect fat survival and healing.
- Poor Nutrition: Lack of proper nutrition can affect healing and fat retention.
- Infection: Failure to maintain proper hygiene may lead to infections that will negatively affect the results.
When can you sit on the toilet after brazilian butt lift surgery?
After brazilian butt lift (BBL) surgery sitting on the toilet immediately is not recommended for the first 2 weeks because it may damage the fat cells. However, it is important to do this carefully to avoid putting pressure on your hip when necessary. Use a pillow or rolled towel to minimize direct contact. Most surgeons recommend avoiding prolonged sitting for at least 2 to 3 weeks.
How to speed up BBL recovery?
To speed up BBL recovery, reduce swelling and support healing, it is beneficial to do the following;
- Wear compression garments.
- Follow your doctor’s post-operative instructions closely.
- Avoid sitting directly on your hips for the recommended period, using a special pillow if necessary.
- Follow a balanced and healthy diet routine with protein, vitamins and fluids to support tissue repair.
- Take light walks to increase circulation.
- Take time for rest and follow-up appointments.
Why does my BBL look flat?
There are several factors that can cause a BBL to appear flat;
- These include reducing swelling after surgery and the body’s natural absorption of fat.
- Sitting directly on your hips early on can also affect the results.
- Insufficient fat retention due to poor blood flow or technique can cause a flatter appearance.
- In addition, the healing response of each individual body varies and will affect the final result.
How to keep your BBL full?
To maintain a full brazilian butt lift (BBL) surgery;
- Do not sit directly on your hips for several weeks after surgery.
- To support fat retention, stick to a nutritious diet rich in healthy fats and proteins.
- Stay hydrated and avoid smoking, as this can slow healing and prevent fat from surviving.
- Follow your surgeon’s post-operative care instructions.
- You can begin light physical activity to support circulation without putting pressure on the treated area.
What age is best for BBL?
The ideal age for BBL generally ranges from your mid-20s to your mid-40s, when skin elasticity is good and the body has enough fat to transfer.
However, the best age varies depending on individual health and skin condition. Candidates should be in good general health and have good expectations.
It is important to consult a reliable and experienced surgeon to determine when to have the procedure.
What are the disadvantages of BBL?
The disadvantages of BBL include;
- Potential risks such as fat embolism, which can be life-threatening if the fat enters the bloodstream.
- Other complications include infection, asymmetry, scarring, and long recovery times.
- The body may also absorb a significant portion of the transferred fat, resulting in less-than-expected results.
- Avoiding adverse and unexpected outcomes requires careful post-operative care to ensure a speedy recovery from treatment.
What is the biggest complication of BBL?
The biggest complication of Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery is fat embolism, which is when fat accidentally enters the bloodstream and blocks major blood vessels. This can lead to serious problems such as lung, heart, or brain damage and must be treated in severe cases. It is considered the most dangerous risk associated with the procedure.
How to maximize BBL results?
- Follow all post-operative care instructions from your surgeon for optimal recovery.
- Use a special pillow while sitting to avoid putting pressure on the hips.
- Wear a compression garment to help shape and reduce swelling.
- Focus on eating healthy, nutrient-rich foods to help promote long-term fat recovery and healing.
- Avoid smoking and alcohol, as these can inhibit the healing process.
- Maintain a stable weight to prevent fat redistribution or loss.
- Avoid strenuous physical activity for the recommended period to protect fat grafts.
Is it hard to poop after BBL?
Yes, it can be uncomfortable to go to the bathroom due to pain and swelling in the hip area.
- Painkillers and anesthesia can cause constipation and make it difficult to have bowel movements. Therefore:
- Drinking plenty of water and eating fiber-rich foods can help to make bowel movements easier during recovery.
Why can't I wear jeans after BBL?
After Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), it is important to avoid wearing tight clothing, such as jeans, as these can put pressure on the newly transferred fat cells. The fat cells need time to settle, and any compression during this time can restrict blood flow and make the procedure unsuccessful. Wearing loose clothing will help keep the fat cells undisturbed, allowing for optimal healing and better results.
What foods should I avoid after BBL?
After BBL, it is best to avoid foods that are high in salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats. Salt can lead to bloating and fluid retention, which can inhibit healing.
Sugary and processed foods can contribute to inflammation, while unhealthy fats from fried foods or junk food can slow down healing. Instead, focus on eating nutrient-rich, well-balanced meals that promote healing and provide the body with the vitamins and minerals it needs to heal efficiently.
